Robin’s boss sent this to all employees today. I
bet most companies will politely ignore Patriot’s Day.

September 11
Colleagues—
As you know, this weekend marks the ten-year
anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The occasion provides us
with a moment to reflect once again on the significance of family and friends,
and the critical mission we fulfill every day as a media company dedicated to
informing our audiences about important news events around the world. It also is
a time to remember that in order to fulfill this mission, many of our
journalists put themselves in harm’s way every day, especially those we have
stationed in areas of conflict. We cannot overstate their sacrifice and
contributions.
This anniversary is also an opportunity to remember
the life of Steve Jacobson, a WPIX-TV engineer, who was manning the station’s
transmitter atop the World Trade Center on September 11. Steve’s sacrifice and
dedication serve as a fitting reminder of the tireless work of thousands of
talented people. You infuse this company with life and passion by delivering
news, information and entertainment to our readers, viewers and listeners around
the clock, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
The last ten years have been a time of great change in
this country and around the world. You should be rightly proud of helping tell
the story of those changes and their impact. I am proud to be working alongside
you.
Thank you for your commitment to Tribune and to
serving those who rely on us every day.
