Zach was born on June 24, 1989 in Wichita, Kansas. 18 years pass.  In May, 2007 he graduated from Preston H.S.  19 months pass.



December, 2008  Zach enlists.

~ 15 months ~

March, 2010  He deploys to the treacherous Sangin District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

~ 4 months ~

July 21, 2010  He is injured by an IED.

~ 14 months ~

Sept 23, 2011  Recovered, Zach deploys again to the Sangin District.

~ 2 months ~

November 17, 2011  He is awarded “NCO of the Quarter” and nominated for Sergeant.

November 18, 2011  He is injured by IED again, this time receiving shrapnel to his face, neck and chest.

November 19, 2011  Zach’s parents fly to Germany.

November 21, 2011  In the evening, in a hospital in Germany with parents at his side, Zach dies.

November 25, 2011  He is back on American soil.

November 29, 2011  Two thousand flags are up.

November 30, 2011  His return to Preston, Iowa.

December 1, 2011  His visitation.

December 2, 2011  His funeral.  Flags across Iowa ordered to half-staff.
