When I returned for the visitation, the sidewalk was gone.

The funeral director was on it.

And so were the SgtMaj and Glen…

…with an assist…

…from a Gold Star Dad.

The GSD and the LtCol.  Two serious men at a serious time.

Glen and Sue were both wearing their “God Bless the Good Guys” shirts.

Exactly right.  Honor, courage and commitment are not the core values of Anthony Soprano.  He’s not tough enough.

Americans are free.  They are free to ignore the security that our military provides.  Free to seek wealth and comfort that are not available to our warriors.  Free to choose the time and place of their death.

Federik gave up his freedom.  He surrendered it freely.  He did it for the rest of us, whether we are grateful or not.

God bless the good guys.  About three dozen of us tried to say that by standing outside of the funeral home where one of the good guys lay.  I try not to be seen by the mourners going in and out, but did I manage to get portraits of 27 of them:

Flagline portraits.
