Palawan and Cebu are islands in
the Philippines.
On April 3, 1945 a B-25 left Palawan, flew 400
miles east and then crashed on Cebu.
66 years later the crew was interred in the
soil of America.
Capt. Leonard E. Orcutt, Alameda, Calif., was buried on
May 5 in Oakland, Calif;
Tech. Sgt. Louis H. Miller, Philadelphia, was buried on June 17 in Arlington National Cemetery;
Staff Sgt. George L. Winkler, Huntington, W.Va., was
buried May 5 in Arlington National Cemetery;
2nd Lt. Harry L. Bedard, Minneapolis, will be buried on
June 25 in Dayton, Minn.;
and 2nd Lt. Robert S. Emerson, Norway, Maine, will be
buried July 9 in his hometown.
At this writing there are still
73,792 American servicemen missing from WWII.
In addition there are 7,999 missing from Korea,
1,689 missing from Vietnam and 127 missing from the Cold War.
Happily, none are missing from Grenada, Panama,
Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo, or the current actions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan,
Libya or Yemen with the single exception of Bowe Bergdahl.
